Enemy Chatter: KG’s going to set illegal screens

Chuck - Red's Army February 2, 2010 Uncategorized 3 Comments

I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers
are saying about the Celtics after playing the Celtics. Here's a dose
of 'enemy chatter' from Washington.

"You're playing against the Boston Celtics, so you're not going to get
a lot of calls," he said. "KG's going to set illegal screens; they're
not going to be called. That's just part of the game. You're going to
go to the basket, and if it's not basically just a straight-up WWF body
slam, you're not getting the call."

Brendan Hawyood

For three quarters on Monday, the Wizards had the Celtics staggering,
but they didn't bother to show up for the fourth period, when they shot
2 of 18 and were outscored, 25-10. Perhaps no player had a rougher
period than Jamison, who missed all four of his field attempts and was
called for five fouls in four minutes, including one foul when he was
rolling over on the ground to avoid contact.

I guess I was just a magnet for fouls there. I got pushed to the ground
they called a foul on me," said Jamison, who missed 15 of 17 shots,
finished with just eight points and eight rebounds and was forced to
head to the locker room in the first half with a left knee injury. "One
of those nights. When it rains it pours."

Washington Post

I could only laugh when Jamison got whistled for a foul when a Celtics player fell on top of him! Had that happened to Boston, Tommy would have had a stroke.

Judging from how this game finished, you'd think it was the Wizards who were playing their fourth game in five nights, not the Celtics.

Ugh.

Bullets Forever

Damn, our readers are spoiled. Even when the Celtics stunk, we delivered more than a two sentence recap. One Wizards blogger (Truth About It – TrueHoop) didn't even bother with a game recap.

Brendan Haywood is right, KG sets and gets away with more illegal screens then anyone ever, and quite frankly gets away with anything he wants, hes also gotten away with more travels then just about anyone.. but thats besides the point, haywood is also wrong about the refs let us get away with physical play, im sorry but they flat out just have not this season in any way, theres always bad calls on both sides but i cant think of 1 game where we got the majority of the calls/non calls in our favor

Thats bullshit, the only bigmen in the league that ive seen consistantly get called for illegal screens Kendrick Perkins and Yao Ming
Kevin Garnett does the same thing as Dwight Howard, Al Horford, Pau Gasol, Anderson Verajo, Tim Duncan, and the rest of the big men in the league, and thats set moving screens consistently
ill tell you exactly what happened, Brendon was watching a little of the Celtics Lakers game sunday and heard Van Gundy say KG has set more illegal screens in his career than anybody in the history of the NBA
fastforward to his post game interview after yet another loss, he was pissed off, and probly doesnt like KG too much because of all the talking he does on the floor, and shot off about the exact same thing Gundy said, even though their is no truth to the fact that garnett gets away with more illegal screens than anyone else, because you know what? id be willing to bet he’s gotten at least 25 of those calls this year, and while he does set moving screens, he doesnt do it anymore than Dwight Howard or any of those other guys who dont get called for it nearly as much

Well, quite frankly i agree with you he probably heard van Gundy say this…but Van gundy said it becuase its right…KG has even once said he sets the best illegal screens in the history of the NBA, hes good at it, and knows how to get away with it…Im not saying hes the only one who does it
