Tanguay: Celts Offered Giddens for Robinson

Via CSNNE.com:

Celtics offered J.R. Giddens and undisclosed future considerations to
the Knicks for Nate Robinson three weeks ago, but talks came to a halt
when Robinson had a breakout game against Atlanta.

Tanguay of Comcast SportsNet and 98.5 The Sports Hub, quoting a source
close to the situation, reports that the Celts made the offer for the
5-foot-9 guard towards or at the end of a stretch in which Robinson sat
out 14 straight games in December. But then he played Jan. 1 against
the Hawks
and scored 41 points, which changed the landscape of the potential deal.

You mean the Knicks weren't bowled over by the J.R. Giddens offer?

It's likely Donnie Walsh will keep Robinson until the trading deadline. I'm sure the Giddens offer will still be on the table if he doesn't get any better offers.

Giddens was sent down to Maine Today.

  • What a freeking steal that would have been.

  • Yeah, let’s take aboard a selfish PG with a tiny basketball IQ who don’t know the meaning of the word “pass” and give the Knicks a promising young guy, nice move.
This trade will screw any last hope in this horrible season, and will totally screw this team for many seasons. Why do we have to live the Nineties again? We’ve already been there before… Please Danny don’t do it.

  • Giddens is promising? He’s gone after this year – if the Celtics had any interest they would have picked up the option on his contract.

Giddens is about as promising as Gabe Pruitt was.

Very surprising the Knicks didn’t bite at this no-offer. I guess the C’s weren’t too serious.

  • Giddens for Robinson would have been a steal. If Zeke were still in charge, he would have likely made the decision that would have hurt the Knicks.

nate didn’t get any offers during last yr’s free agency and its tough market to think he’ll get anything after this year. if his remarks were right that he wants to be in green, can we say good bye to eddie and hello nate..3 yrs and 9 mill?

What I think is stupid is that his 41 point game “changed the landscape”. Why? Everyone knows he could score. It was obviously just his attitude that made the Knicks bench him, not a lack of ability. To think other teams would suddenly sweeten their offers because of one great game is ridiculous, he’s still the same guy. A Giddens swap would’ve certainly been a steal but I’d be worried about what “future considerations” meant. I wouldn’t want to include any draft picks to get him.
