There’s a Beast running wild in Charlotte

Chuck - Red's Army December 1, 2009 Uncategorized 11 Comments

How about Kendrick Perkins? The Beast dominated the paint and finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks in the Celtics 108-90 win over the Bobcats.

Ray Allen was on the mark tonight. He finished with 27 points, 5-6 3FG, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Couple this stat line with the 245 he bowled last night (according to Donny Marshall) and Ray had one helluva stay in North Carolina.

The Celtics jumped all over the 'Cats from the start and never looked back. They passed the ball (24 assists), played aggressive defense (Charlotte 40% FG) controlled the boards (+4) and made their 3s (10-17).

Other observations:

KG (16 points, 7 rebounds) and Nazr Mohammed had to be separated in the 2nd quarter (click here for video). Mohammed was looking for retaliation after taking a shot on the chin while drawing a charge.

'Sheed collected another questionable technical foul as he was walking towards the bench. When the free throw was missed, you could see and hear him yelling his trademark- "Ball Don't Lie!"

'Sheed (7 points, 1-3 3FG) also passed up two open three point shots in the 4th. On one possession, he passed the ball, cut to the post and took and missed a turn-around jumper. On the other possession, he drove to the hoop and missed a runner. He's clearly eased up on the long distant Js.

Gerald Wallace had just 5 points on 1-6 shooting. He never got into rhythm after collecting two quick fouls and sitting for most of the first half.

Paul Pierce had 8 points on 3-8 shooting. The Truth was not needed in this one.

The lead reached a high of 28 points early in the 4th.

Greg Dickerson asked Rajon Rondo about this 40-yard dash challenge to the Titans' Chris Johnson. Rondo denied our story, and deferred all questions to Marquis Daniels.

Very encouraging performances from Ray and Perk!
Perk just keeps getting better and better.

Not sure how questionable that tech was. Sheed was doing a whole lot of yapping on his way past the ref at half court. Granted, it’s Sheed so it’s entirely possible that he was talking to himself. It looked to me like he asked for that one, but I might be wrong. Not that some of his other techs haven’t been totally ridiculous – the one against the Heat comes to mind in particular.
Perk has always been a favorite and he sure has come a long way since he first got here.

Did anyone else notice that the NBA logo on Rondo’s headband was not upside down this game? This is the first time I have ever seen him wear it like this. I never figured out exactly why he always wore it upside down, but does him changing it mean anything? If anyone know anything about this mystery, please chime in.
Ray Ray is back and proud.

For 3 and the game: I noticed he always wore it upside down too. But he may have just forgotten-who knows. But anyways, speaking of Perk:

It became a superstition after he wore it upside accidentally once (no idea when) and happened to play well that game.

Great game… team’s really coming together, both O and D.
Doc said after the game that he put KG back in the 4th because the lead dropped to 18. With a few minutes left in the game. Pretty quick trigger there, Doc.
Lester had a beautiful acrobatic defensive play in the 4th. Something I don’t think anyone else on the team could have done. Hope he gets more PT… the kid’s got great potential.

only lester hudson can make that defensive play?
cmon man, the only time he gets to play is when we’re up 20 late in the 4th…judging potential at that point? if he was so good…he would be our backup PG, really that simple…they see him in practive and know, they cast use the hes too young card, because hes as old as perkins and older then rondo and glen davis

The Beast ran wild, great to see. Always fun to watch E House taking 3’s with 19 secs left on the shot clock when we’re up 15 points.
    * and was it me or were those dancers somethin special?

Great game tonight from the c’s
and honestly somewhat unexpected to blow the bobcats out…the celtics have struggled there the last few years, and they added stephen jackson, who usually kills the celtics, and the just blew out 4 teams in a row including cleveland…
has to be the best game they played as a team on both ends for 48 minutes…and perk has indeed been a beast…lol our best big man and we have sheed and kg

Well fellas I’ve been preaching about Perks game for about 3-4 yrs now & I’m happy he is now getting some love & not just from the hometown fans but also the fans around the NBA! Lets hope he keeps it up & doesn’t get hit by that nagging Shoulder injury.
If you think about it Pierce & Perk have been our most consistent players the entire year!

Agree on your second point, they sure got my attention. Can’t believe I blew it by not doing some advanced scouting.
