The End of the J.R. Giddens Era

Via Chad Ford (big hat tip to Celtics Blog):

The only other player (besides Joe Alexander) from the first-round class of 2008 to have their third year option declined was the Celtics' J.R. Giddens.

Giddens is earning $1.208 million this season. His team option for next year is $1.1 million. Danny obviously believes that Giddens doesn't have a future with the team and the money can be spent on a veteran.

The Celtics wasted a first round (30th) pick on Giddens in 2008. A quick glance at the draft board shows they would have been better served taking Mario Chalmers (34) or Chris Douglas Roberts (40).

My most memorable J.R. Giddens moment? The dunk he threw down during the Celtics open practice in Lowell a few weeks back. Pretty sad, pretty, pretty sad.

Quite disappointed that Giddens wasn’t much of a good player. He looked like a great player, with great athletic ability, but damn, this kid has the brain of Tony Allen.

I agree, why didn’t they take CDR?

i was hoping for mario chalmers from the start of the draft. could have been a great backup for rondo and a trade chip down the road.

ainge doesn’t get enough criticism for this pick. I was so stoked when CDR and Chalmers were both available. I was happy with either one, though I was leaning towards CDR since we needed wing help after Posey left. Sigh.

didn’t matter who they took…none of them were cracking this lineup. Even if they took Chalmers, Doc never would’ve trusted the rookie to insert him into a game. No F*ckin Way.
What’s with SkyWalker? He still under contract for next year too?
