Stein/Mannix: We $%&!@# Told You So

Chuck - Red's Army November 2, 2009 Uncategorized 10 Comments

ESPN's Marc Stein and SI's Chris Mannix have released their updated NBA power rankings. Guess which team sits atop both polls? The Celtics. The team that should have been #1 in every preseason poll.

Here's what Mannix has to say about the Celtics:

Rasheed Wallace is a pretty good fit in Beantown,
isn't he? Wallace, who is averaging 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds, has
ensured that the Celtics don't miss a beat when Kevin Garnett is out of
the lineup. He may be needed to fill Garnett's shoes more often, too:
Said one Bulls player, "KG's knee just doesn't look healthy."
If the Rondo contract extension saga has been a distraction, imagine
what kind of D we'll see from the C's when they're focused. They held
the Hornets to 87 on Sunday and at times you were asking: "What's
wrong?"

The Magic are ranked #2 in both polls.

UPDATE: Here's Mannix' response to our post (via Twitter):

always loved C's but didn't think they would dominate this quickly

Sounds like Joakim Noah’s doing some more whining about KG.

I’ve gotta admit it. I don’t think KG’s knee looks that great either. Each game there’s a moment or two where I hold my breath because of Kevin taking a weird step, or landing a little rough. *crosses finger*

His knee isn’t 100% and it might not be ever this season or ever. But what he is giving us now is a blessing compared to what we had in our post-season last year.
And… the better basketball shape he gets in, the more effective he’ll be.
Our KG won’t be pulling down every rebound or jumping out of the gym, but he’ll be good enough to lead the troops on defense, hit his spots on the baseline and the elbows, and be a threat for high pick and rolls.

Celtics are scary good, for sure.
Magic are too, though. They’re winning with ease WITHOUT Lewis, Carter and Pietrus. Talk about depth. From where we are right now, they are the team to beat this year.
KG will be the critical piece on D… he’s the guy to stop Lewis. But man, it’s going to be one hell of a battle with those guys.

Honestly, you guys do look really scary! We got a some kinks to workout on our side but hopefully come June it will be Celtics vs Lakers.

Just think though they have to try to fit those players back in the lineup. Magic look good so far but not sold on them. They are def. deserving of the 2nd spot but not over the Celtics.

Since when are Bulls’ players doctors. LOL

  • KY Celts fan

I agree the Magic are looking good, but look at the teams they have played so far: Philly, NJ, and Toronto. Two teams that will probably finish in the lottery and one that will be seventh or eighth in the playoffs. Not really the pick of the litter.

I’d like to hear some updated news about Pau. I’ve been reading rumors that he could be out most of the season with that hamstring injury. and he might have a torn acl? what’s up with him?

  • Reality Check

Gasol appears to have a tear of the hammy. Prognosis is out 6 weeks at the longest and he has already sat out 3 weeks. With the front loaded home schedule the Lakers have, this won’t affect their long term.
