Marbury Actually Making Sense

I know Starbury is crazy, but he did say share some intelligent thoughts with the Marc Berman of the New York Post:

"I'm just talking as a fan and New Yorker who grew up loving the
Knicks: why would I give you my money to watch them?" Marbury told The
Post. "This is atrocious. Guys coming down court, just raising up
3-pointers from anywhere. The coaching is horrible. What kind of
coaching is this?

"LeBron isn't coming to a rebuilding team," Marbury said. "Why would he
come to a rebuilding team? It makes no sense. Is this franchise built
to win a championship or to make money?"

He's right. I don't get the fascination with Mike D'Antoni. He excelled with a Suns teams that was stacked with offensive talent. I understand the Knicks roster is a mess. But if you don't have the horses to run the system (which he clearly doesn't), then shouldn't you adapt to the players you have? Ask Pat Riley. Did he bring the Lakers "Showtime" to NY? No, he built a team around Patrick Ewing and defense.

There's no mention of his recent tweets criticizing Paul Pierce. I emailed Berman our story a few days ago. Either Marbury refused to answer, or Berman didn't ask.

  • D’antoni is a brilliant offensive coach…sorry..
And he didnt excell because of a suns team stacked with offensive talent, they excelled because of him, including nash winning two mvps because of inflated stats playing in Dantonis system

i kinda agree with Marbury on this one. actually, I totally agree. D’antoni implements an exciting brand of basketball, but not an effective one. it stresses offense over all else, and pushes defense right out the door. sure, his teams could score 110 points on any given night, but when the other team is scoring 130 points because you’re team refuses to play defense, what was it all for?

I like this site because of its avowed homerism and funny jabs, but when it comes to basketball analysis it’s a joke. Without D’Antoni the Knicks maybe win 25 games last year. His record with the Suns was incredible, and frankly they were jobbed by Stern for a trip to the Finals. He’s not perfect, he’s no Pop, but he’s a damn good coach.
I’d trade Doc for him in a second, as long as we got to keep Thibs.

considering that the team only won 32 games WITH D’antoni, a 25 win season isn’t saying much at all. I definitely wouldn’t trade Doc for him.

  • So D’Antoni is a genius because he coached 7 more wins out of the Knick.
And you call my analysis a joke?
D’Antoni will end up like Don Nelson, a great offensive mind who won’t win anything.

you’re never going to win anything important when you only play half a game. No defense = No championships.
