Kevin Garnett Looks Damn Good

Chuck - Red's Army October 7, 2009 Uncategorized 11 Comments

I hate to make assumptions after the first preseason game, but Kevin Garnett appears to be healthy and well, he looks like the old KG. The intensity and energy only KG can bring to a game was back. He finished with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals in 13 minutes. And most importantly, I didn't see him limp or favor the leg in any way.

Rasheed Wallace (6 points, 3 blocks and 1 technical foul) performed exactly how I expected. He hit a three pointer, blocked some shots, talked a lot of smack and collected his first technical foul in a Celtics uniform.

Marquis Daniels (7 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds) looked comfortable with the ball in his hands. He didn't have the outside shot tonight (his only 3-point attempt was an airball), but he was effective going to the hoop.

Perk looks noticeably thinner. He finished with 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 5 fouls in 14 minutes. I was initially skeptical about the weight loss, but the added quickness could prove beneficial. I am concerned about his ability to bang with the likes of Shaq and Dwight Howard.

Paul Pierce and Ray Allen didn't make much of an impact. Rajon Rondo looked out of sync. He had more turnovers than assists (4-to-3) and finished 1-4 from the floor.

Oh yeah, the Celtics lost 96-90. They missed 20 free throws (35-55). Mike Sweetney lead the team in scoring with 10 points. He was the only Celtic in double figures.

Box Score | Recap

"This is like the Texiera pickup for the Yankees. Marquis Daniels is
that guy… he's just one of those guys you don't know enough about.
People in the basketball world know him, they know this is a huge
pickup for the Celtics."
- Donny Marshall

Thank you Donny for saying what I've been saying all off-season. The Daniels signing was huge. I expect the national media to catch on, about midway through the season.

Agree with pretty much everything you said..
I love Maruiss game, its just too bad hes not a good 3 pt shooter, but his driving floaters are a beauty.
KG looked great, really suprised me…the shape him and ray allen mantain is really amazing

Was KG explosive? (Did he dunk?)

Marquis Daniels has just got to change either his number or his haircut or maybe just get a jersey that fits him. I kept getting these mini-mikki-moore flashbacks every time I see him on the court. I swear if you look real close you can still see the remnants of “MOORE” lettering on the back of his oversized jersey. Who knows, it may just be Big Al’s old jersey…

Beside the fact that KG came out with those to good early lookin buckets, I don’t understand why people are gettin stoked over this game besides the fact that it was his return; which is big I note. The “intensity & engergy” just wasn’t the same, but for spurts, as we saw in the 3rd quarter. He was huffin & puffin hard. I think this one got a little to much attention on ESPN. Daniels look dope though and that is a pretty good comparison with Texiera.

Thats funny…but obviously you know they dont just grab an old mikki or big al jersey and put daniels on the back right?
lol… although I agree I kept seeing Mikki in the game last night for some reason ;-)~

Ya know, I would kinda agree with this too…I thought it was just really nice to see him, and I expected him to look worse so i was stoked about how he did look, which in reality was average, he took 4 jumpshots, played some average D…about the same thing he did when he came back last season before ultimately being shut down for good…as for being winded, everyone was…and I think the Teixera comparison is awful…Tex is a huge contract superstar..Marquis is a veterans minimum role player

That headline makes me think about what my wife kept saying last night: the new Celtics are UG-LY. I started to argue about Sheed, and then there was a nice long closeup of Quis… I think this should be the second unit’s identity, like the ’04 Red Sox “idiots.” They could never wash their uniforms or hair, really mess with people.

Marquis obviously looked good everyone knows that. He was smooth and relaxed making buckets look easy.. good to see. Rasheed was lights out from deep but he seemed slightly thick and a step slow to me. Lester Hudson seemed confident (an improvement from pruitt) although a little out of control but that is to be expected. I was most surprised by Gidden’s explosion. He’s quick and has a decent shot but still raw. somewhat reminds me of gerald green and that may not be a good thing. Great to see the C’s back in action though.

Kind of like the Texiera signing.
Yeah, in that they both signed a contract with a blue pen. Not sure Daniels will be an MVP candidate though. Strange analogy.

On Marquis, Im aiming more at the addition to a loaded Celtic team by no means contract situation, But you’re right if Marshall’s comments were made with money in mind. But Boston did look really winded & by saying this Im not saying fans should go into panic mode, because it is just the 1st week of pre season; but only two other teams looked out shape. Orlando, Boston, Pacers, and actually as im watchin the Utah game them two. But they are playin Madrid which probably hasn’t had a break from basketball.
