Via Ball Don't Lie:

If it seems odd to rank this guy so high, considering he's
spent years presiding over some pretty rank teams, I can understand your fears.
But this is a decade-long list, and while some of the men at the top of this
page may have better futures (and won't have to pay
Kevin Garnett over $21
million in 2011-12), Ainge's drafting acumen and willingness to take chances
make him a winner in my book. If not one in the standings, from 2003 until
2007.

This analysis is right on the money.

Here's a look at the best players Danny Ainge drafted (or traded for on draft night) over the past 6 years:

  • Kendrick Perkins
  • Al Jefferson
  • Delonte West
  • Ryan Gomes
  • Rajon Rondo
  • Glen Davis
  • Leon Powe
  • Tony Allen

He's had his share of clunkers too – Marcus Banks, Gerald Green, Telfair, LaFrentz, etc, but the criticism ends with Ray Allen, KG and Banner 17.

R.C. Buford may hold the GM title in San Antonio and top spot on the list, but isn't Pop pulling all the strings?

Hopefully we can add Lester to that Best Player list since DickOuch opted for the Suns.

If we win this season maybe they’ll rank ainge much higher:)
    Banner 18!

  • Lee in Oregon

DA is a great executive…..he’s restored the franchise from the depths of despair ML & little Ricky brought on…
…BUT the night he made the Telfair trade I wanted to drive back to Boston and ring his freakin neck. How anyone who was even half-way paying attention could think Bassy was even worth a 2nd round pick is/was completely unfathomable. It’s all forgiven now….but I think DA’s strength is his ability to draft. His trades and FA agent signings have been up & down (KG makes it easy to forget), but this has been a great offseason for him- especially getting BBD on the cheap.

If Buford is having Pop pull all the strings, that makes him a great GM. You can’t really argue with him being no. 1 for the decade, three rings? With that budget?
