The most epic draft ever

Celtics-50-Years

The Boston Celtics, as an organization, are in a class by themselves (despite what Lakers fans think).

As we look back at the history of this franchise… there's only one team that can compete with the Boston Celtics:  The Boston Celtics. The only team that could compete with a group of the all-time Celtics greats… is another team of all-time Celtics greats.

So that's what we're going to do here on Red's Army.

Tonight at 9pm, Chuck and I are going to sit down and hold the most epic draft ever.  It will be a draft from Celtics history.  12 players each.  And when we're done, WhatIfSports.com is going to run those teams through 1,000 simulations of a 7-game series to see who would win.

And just like the NBA draft, this draft is open to its fans.  At 9pm, we're going to fire up a live chat so you guys can see the draft as it happens.  You can offer your input.  You can applaud or pan the picks as you see fit.  Then it's about a week of speculation and trash talk before we unveil who the ultimate champion is.

So join us tonight at 9 for the beginning of what should be a great event.

  • hi guys, i’m a long time boston celtics fan from turkey, i regularly follow your site and appreciate what you do here. but i have one request, as long as i’m not a native speaker, i have some difficulties in understanding your podcasts. that’s probably because of the sound, your speeches come very blurry at times. please try to fix it, if possible. cheers.

  • I love the concept. But are you drafting the player based on their career stats, career stats on the celtics or something like their best seasons?

  • I’m trying to clear that up. I think it’s career averages.

    Should be fun!

  • Actually, it’s their best season. I think in the event of Garnett or Ray Allen, we would include them and obviously take the championship season stats since KG was hurt last year.

This is interesting, but you should pick the best of the celtics and the best of the lakers and played the simulations of them versus one another. The Celtics would win by the way.
Here would be my two teams if i drafted them both just to give you someone elses opinion going in:(I did it by looking at the best year with the team)
Team ONe:()= number they were picked.
    C-Dave Cowens(9)
    F-Kevin Garnett(5)
    F-Larry Bird(1)
    G-John Havlicek(4)
    G-Jo Jo White(12)
    BENCH:
    G-Sam Jones(8)
    C-Robert Parish(13)
    F-Reggie Lewis(16)
    F-Cedric Maxwell(17)
    G-Tiny Archibald(20)
    F-Dino Radja(21)
    F-Don Nelson(24)
    TEAM TWO:
    C-Bill Russell(2)
    F-Kevin McHale(7)
    F-Tommy Heinsohn(10)
    G-Paul Pierce(6)
    G-Bob Cousey(3)
    BENCH:
    G-Bill Sharman(11)
    F-Biley Howell(14)
    F-Antoine Walker(15)
    G-Ray Allen(18)
    C-Ed Macauley(19)
    G-Dennis Johnson(22)
    F-Dominique Wilkins(23)
I’m looking at the two of these and I can’t decide who’d win. Though i think the bench of team one is better, and they’ve got Larry Bird and K.G’s killer mentality, but the Center and PG positions for team too are a lot better.

  • the Celtics vs. Lakers thing is something we can save in case of a C’s/LA final
