More Wine for Stan Van Gundy

Via FanHouse:

"For a team that went to the Finals, we really haven't gotten the
respect teams normally do,'' Van Gundy said at the Magic's
headquarters. "Based upon what we did last year, I think our players do
feel a little under appreciated and under respected.''

the Magic beat both the Celtics and the Cavaliers last spring on the
way to reaching the Finals, their draft-night trade for Vince Carter was shadowed when Boston added Rasheed Wallace and Cleveland traded for Shaquille O'Neal.

"It was a lot of little things, and in the long run they're not very
important, but you feel it,'' Van Gundy said. "Like the television
schedule. Normally on Christmas Day, you get a rematch of the teams
that played in the Finals. But instead, we get a Christmas Day matchup
of the teams that they (TV executives) wanted to see in the Finals.''

The Magic are underrated? Really? Sorry Stan, but I'm not feeling you.

The media is overrating the Magic following their horrible* off-season in which they let their best offensive player  (Hedo Turkoglu) walk, and traded a budding star (Courtney Lee) for a notoriously selfish and one-dimensional player (Vince Carter).

Van Gundy makes a good point about the Christmas Day schedule, however he's slighting the Celtics by doing so.

Let us know what you think about the Magic by voting in our poll (right sidebar).

*Editor's Note: Upon further review, I've decided "horrible" may be too harsh of  a description for the moves Orlando made in the off-season considering they bolstered their bench with Brandon Bass and Matt Barnes. Regardless, I still do not like the changes made to their starting five.

  • if you actually try to look at it from his perspective instead of a celtic one, hes 100% correct.
and the magic organazation didnt think anywhere near as highly as hedo turkoglu as you do (also they had 3 all stars not named hedo)..hedo actually owes a ton of his success and new contract to none other then stan van gundy. I agree on courtney lee, why you would want to get rid of that kid is beyond me but how vince the whince will fit in is yet to be seen…they are the defending east champs until proven otherwise, so im sorry to say it but hes right

Hui hard commented oO but I think near the same way – Hedo was the goto Guy last year and without him and the strong Courtney Lee they maybe only as good as last year with the pro of Carters athleticism BUT if you look who else they sign too, they are possible stronger than last year ^_° (Williams/Barnes)

  • they also signed Brandon Bass
I dont see where anyone gets off saying they had a terrible offseason

  • Did you watch the playoffs? Every play the Magic ran went through Turkoglu.
I don’t think his stats justify his importance to the team.

  • Maybe horrible was a bit of a reach. Bass and Barnes will help the bench. Williams is 33 and hasn’t played in a year – he’s a reach.
But the core of their team has changed…and not for the better.

Started to whine about “We don’t get no respect” shit already big Stan.. lol Losing keys players that took you to the finals will hurt their chances “Big Time”. This won’t be the last time we hear this dude whine.

  • as of now they won’t have the two most important factors on there side that caused their improbable run: kevin garnett will be healthy and they don’t pose the matchup problem of playing two 6’10 small forwards anymore
they have become much more conventional, and i doubt that will be a good thing for them; anyway the c’s with kg mop the floor with orlando

  • haha oh and van gundy, you want respect? win the fucking championship
havent you ever heard no one remembers who finishes in 2cd place

  • Matt

Oh I think us Bostoners are going to remember the 2007 Pats for a long time.

  • Hey I like turkoglu, but hes being a bit overrated by people who want to slight the magics offseason
bottom line is vince carter is better then hedo, its as simple as that…now he might not fit like hedo did, but noone knows just yet…people didnt think our big 3 could work together at first either.
Magic organzation and coaching staff didnt like hedo enough, after all he did, and quite frankly he was a system guy, and the reason he ran there stuff so good was because of his options

  • Oh and you also gotta throw in the fact that alot of their stuff ran through hedo because jameer nelson was injured, you know, there point guard who made the all star game and is expected back healthy this season?
Hedo did not have a good regular season, he turned it on in the playoffs because hmmmm…he was a free agent

  • Hedo turkoglus 16 pts a game on 41 percent shooting in the regular season
and 15 pts on 42 percent shooting are being entirely overratrd
    those %’s are garbage

  • people will remember them, but like they remember the 90s bills, or lakers of the 50s and 60s; because those were great teams that just didnt get the job done
the 2007 pats were the best team in the nfl and choked away a superbowl, i doubt that bostoners look back quite fondly on them
while the magic were a team that got extremely lucky and overachieved to get to the finals where they had no business being totally different

Yep if Shelden Williams is as useful as Brandon Bass we’ll be happy campers, will be interesting to see what Carter shows up……
