Rick Pitino Mess Brings Smile to My Face

I know, I'm being petty. And I should move on from the whole Rick Pitino-destroyed-my-favorite-team grudge. But I cracked a smile this morning upon hearing the latest news regarding slick Rick:

University of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino told police
that he had consensual sex with Karen Cunagin Sypher at a Louisville
restaurant where he'd been drinking on Aug. 1, 2003.

He also told police that he later gave Sypher $3,000 to have an abortion…

This could be the beginning of the end for Pitino at Louisville. For starters, he's married. Even if most of the bible-thumping Louisville boosters are able to overlook infidelity, I'm not so sure they'll get past the abortion.

The fact it happened six years ago doesn't matter. It's new to the media. And since there's nothing else remotely close to Cardinal basketball on the Louisville sports scene, this story isn't going anyway anytime soon.

Grudge is still SOLID – Pitino was the same coach/Gm that let Billups, Joe Johnson, Bowen and Ben Wallace.. etc walk out that door.

One detail that everyone seems to be overlooking:
“Rick Pitino told police that he had consensual sex with Karen Cunagin Sypher AT A LOUISVILLE RESTAURANT where he’d been drinking on Aug. 1, 2003.”
They had sex AT the restaurant. Am I the only one who finds this to be an amazing detail?

If Rick Pitino was black, or if this were a black head coach, the way ESPN is covering this would be completely different. I guarantee you they would put him on the cross for this, if not outright call for his firing. There would be no question of whether or not it was o.k. to delve into his personal life, no question about whether or not he hurts UL’s image. He would be vilified. ESPN actively partakes in a bigoted double standard, and will continue to do so in this case.
