Updates on BBD and Marquis Daniels (Kinda, Not Really)

Chuck - Red's Army August 5, 2009 Uncategorized 7 Comments

Here's what the Indy Star has to say about the Daniels sign-and-trade:

There's been little progress made between the Pacers and Celtics on a possible sign-and-trade deal for Marquis Daniels.

The Pacers aren't interested in guard Tony Allen, who the Celtics are willing to move.

The Pacers don't want TA – I can't imagine why. And Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld has this on Glen Davis:

It seemed like Glen "Big Baby" Davis
was headed towards a deal with the New Jersey Nets either as a free
agent signing or in a sign and trade deal and now things have gone
quiet.

Sources close to the situation say the Celtics are not close to matching an offer for Big Baby; it's all about the dollars. A deal in the $3 to $4 million range is likely getting matched according to Celtic sources, a deal north of $5 million may not. The Celtics are rumored to have a four-year, $10 million offer on the table.

Four years and $10 million? That's the first time I've heard that one. Then again, this has dragged on for so long, I can't remember much.

Kind of killing me to think we may have to give up Walker or Giddens to make this deal. My guess is that Bird will take TA ONLY if one of those guys is included as well

I don’t think Bird wants anything to do with TA. Remember Bird is trying to do a team image overhaul no way he’ll take TA. I think he wants Scallie.
C’s are really low balling BBD if the 4yr/10mill is true. Think about it… Scal and House make more per year and add insult to injury TA makes 2.5 per.

I look at it this way: it would be great if BW or JR could turn into something valuable. But Doc won’t play either of them in a meaningful game. Hence, we need someone Doc will play. His name is bruce bowen. We trade BW or JR, we sign BB

Doc is a little more flexible in year two. That makes me wonder if we will sign Hudson.
I think this team has enough if we get back Baby, sign Daniels and Hudson. I would be happy with that team
Bowen would be a plus, but I am not sure we want to completely jeopardize our future. I guess DA can tell how much progress these guys are making.
Remember what Starbury said about Giddens. And Walker has that Powe-like aggressiveness

    Hey, thetitleisours,
When I click reply, the comments box disappears. So this will have to do.
Do you think we have a game-plan beyond 3 years?
If so, will keeping either BW or JR make us more likely to win a title in years 4-10?
    I don’t know. I’m just wondering.

I guess they are hoping by then they will have enough money to start over. But Baby and the few can provide some anchor.
I admit that my opinions are biased towards our players. Hated to see Gomes go, Big Al, Powe, etc. Walker seems like a good guy. Quality people as well as players are rare.
I guess I would make a crappy GM lol
Just figure if we have ten quality guys, then leave a few spots at the end of the roster for the future (or guys that could end up surprising us this year (Walker could blowup like Baby did)rather than known talent at the end of their careers). The risk could be worth it

They may be the holdup. Wonder what will happen?
