The Lakers Just Got Crazier

It looks like Ron Artest is signing with the Lakers:

"I'm definitely going to L.A. — to sign, yeah," Artest said in a phone
interview. "Lakers, Lakers, Lakers. I'm in L.A. right now."

"I don't really care about the money," Artest said. "I'll play there
for nothing. … L.A. was very interested in me, and they got me."

This is a good move for LA, provided Ron-Ron remains on his best behavior.

feck gahtest- he’ll look great in a loser uni

  • six45ci

looks like the lakers have nobody who can challenge them for the championship this next year, if artest plays his best game. fish.kobe.artest.gasol.bynum…plus odom off the bench..OUCH. celtics better hope they get rasheed, if that helps at all.

  • zippittyay

oh goodie. This should make Celtic-Laker games all the more enjoyable. We’ll send in Bill Walker to get in his face.

  • FSantos33

Artest in Arisa out? Who’s going to get Trevor now? Cavs must be frontrunners because they were after Artest. Will be Celtics be interested in Arisa if we don’t land Sheed? Gotta admit Lakers just got better on Defense and scoring with Artest. The downside is lack of mental stability.
Ok Ainge and Wyc – What’s up now?!?!?!?!?!

  • DRJ

Artest’s offense is way, way overrated. He’s good on D, of course, but man, he was stinking up the place in the playoffs offensively (40% FG%, 27% 3PT%) . If this means they lose Ariza, I think it’s a net loss. (Ariza’s playoff stats: 50% FG%, 48% 3PT%)

  • Ajay Virk

Ariza stats are flawed to Kobe always driving it in and getting Ariza the open shots all the time. This is a steal for LA

  • DRJ

Artest forces bad shots, yes. Ariza correctly takes good shots. Artest is also 30 years old, vs. Ariza who is 24. Artest is volatile, borderline nuts, Ariza solid.
Sorry, but I’d rather have Ariza, and this is a clear net negative for the Lakers… if they lose Ariza.

  • srm90

As a Laker fan, as crazy as this might sound, I hope you guys get Rasheed now. That would be a hell of a finals matchup.

    Doc J..long time no see..

  • Ajay Virk

lol what joke Celtic fans are. Cause LA got better you clearly hoping Ron goes bad in LA. LOL what a joke you bandwagons are. Cheering MVP for Kobe then winning a title and thinking you guys are the best. Celtics winning the title was a one year stint.

  • srm90

Not if Ariza wants 7-9 million, I’d gladly take Artest for much less money.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p011570423591970b KobeWearsAPurpleThong

I agree srm90. It will just make it that much more entertaining. Lakers were kinda boring too (besides Kobe’s dunks etc.) and Artest will bring a certain flair to Jackson’s ho hum Triangle.

  • srm90

I also think you guys are still the favorites above the Cavs to reach the finals, even without Sheed. I’m not buying into the Shaq hype yet.

  • west_coast_bias

Uh ohhhhh, some west coast team just got a lot better as Ron Artest will be joining the Lakers. That’s it, HANG #16 and 17 right now, becuase that just means the Lakers defense just got so much better.
And for those of you saying that Artest offense was lousy in the playoffs, the Lakers don’t need anymore scoring, Artest was acquired for defense.
    Sorry Suckdic fans

  • Boston2010

Not so soft anymore. L.A. just got a lock-down defender. Kobe’s offensive game just got bigger. Rumor has it that Artest is gettin 6 mill. for 3 years or a little less per year. This is scary. He can guard any with some good insurance with the exception of lebron & kobe.

  • DRJ

I’m tellin’ ya, Artest makes the Lakers worse, not better, if Ariza leaves. Here’s Dwyer’s take on it, and I agree with him: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Ron-Artest-to-the-Lakers-?urn=nba,174475
Artest does not have the personality to fit into a new system. He’ll certainly be good on D… but so was Ariza. Bottom line: net loss for the Lakers (if Ariza leaves).
    KWAPT… howdy back atchya.

  • srm90

Well we’ll see what happens. Thank goodness the players actually play the games and not the sports writers. Ariza was asking for too much money. The Lakers are already sky high into the lux tax. If Ariza’s agent wouldn’t have made the asking price so high this probably wouldn’t have happened.

  • Luffy

Laker fan here, we would have liked to kept Ariza but he was asking for too much money so went for Plan B. I really hope you guys sign Rasheed Wallace (so the Spurs don’t get him and so Lebron never touches an NBA finals again). I don’t know why NBA analysts are criticizing the Celtics’ decision to cut Leon Powe. The other 29 NBA teams would’ve done the same thing. The NBA is a business. See you guys in the finals next year. Would rather see a clash of two titletowns than King James and Shaq.

Ron Artest is a special kind of crazy. He blows up at the worst time. Without a proper support structure, he can be a gigantic problem. I don’t know if LA has that. In fact, I think the only team that does is San Antonio.
I don’t think any team truly gets better with Artest, despite his level of talent

  • kelly_dwyer_knows_nothing

Dwyer is the same jacka** that said the Lakers needed to trade Odom for Jason Kidd. Please Kelly Dwyer knows nothing.
Admit it NBA, with Ron Artest, the Lakers have gotten better. PERIOD!!

  • srm90

They do get much more interesting though. And hey, it gives you Celtics fans something to cheer about (hoping for Artest blow ups). :P

  • DRJ

Ariza deserves more money. He’s a great young player who will only get better. Would make a great Celtic, the perfect guy to spell PP… but if he’s too expensive for LA, he’s certainly that for Boston. Too bad.

  • srm90

He’s great and I love the guy as a Laker fan, but 7, 8 or 9 million per year? He can’t even create his own shot. He’s a high energy player but he doen’t deserve more than full mle.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f5ebb21970c JD

Yeah, we hope Ron goes nuts so it won’t help the Lakers at all. Thats what you do as a fan; hope the other team has as many disadvantages as possible.

Me neither, and I was saying the same thing yesterday. I said that I think the Cavs are one more scorer away from being the favorite.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f60396b970c ThatGuyOverTheOcean

That is bad for us. We must land someone immediately, otherwise there’s no chance in hell we can beat them next year.

  • Boston2010!

Don’t think he’s gona be the 1st or 2nd option in the playoffs with L.A. More like 3 or 4 depending on how Odom plays. L.A. only got better.

  • Boston2010!

Us Celtic fans need to seem smarter in order to gain respect through out this whole internet thing.

  • Boston2010!

    ???

  • Boston2010!

You managed to find one article that said negative about their addition. Find me 3 more by legit writers. Remember, Kelly Dwyer is the one that said T-Mac is the next Jordan…
