Celtics Wanted the 36th Pick

Via the Memphis Commercial Appeal:

Boston tried to entice the Grizzlies twice. The Celtics offered Brian Scalabrine, Tony
Allen and a choice of J.R. Giddens or Bill Walker for the Grizzlies' 36th pick
and cash considerations.

The Celtics' best offer for the Grizzlies' No. 2 pick
only included center Kendrick Perkins.

We've heard the Perk for #2 rumor before, and I still doubt its legitimacy. But I wonder who Danny Ainge wanted to grab at #36. Here's a look at the guys who went in that area of the 2nd round:

  • Sam Young
  • DeJuan Blair
  • Jon Brockman
  • Derrick Brown
  • Jodie Meeks
  • Patrick Beverley

Your guess is as good as mine…

  • IMO it’s DeJuan Blair, Danny knew he could be a steal in the future.

  • I bleed green in L.A.

Definitely Blair, the Spurs stole him. Atleast one west team got better. The east got a whole lot tougher with the Cavs, Magic, Wizards and Hawks getting key players.
I don’t care who it was, we could have gotten rid of Scal and TA’s contract? That would have been a blessing in itself. Free up some money to get Sheed, who I think he is still the best fit for this team and he may only command a little more than the MLE. He brings height and length off the bench and can stretch the defense with his 3-point shooting.

I agree big time! The Magic is expected to make an offer to Sheed next week.. Dammit! Hope Ainge, KG and company make a better sales pitch than Magic and Cavs. Sheed and Grant Hill definitely are tops on my Christmas list.

  • was chase budinger still available, he might be a pretty big steal for houston
how were teams buying picks for straight cash, and we are not even able to trade for one?

  • how dumb is danny getting?
Its wild that hes the GM of this team and cant comprehend how important kendrick perkins is
we would take a major step beck trading our defensive anchor away for a rookie

  • thetitleisours

My guess would be Brockman. The Northwest fans love him and Danny has ties I would think

  • Chase Budinger?
Good scorer off the bench to backup up Ray Allen and Paul Pierce?
