Orlando is about to ruin a good thing

They're apparently looking to trade for Vince Carter.

The New Jersey Nets are in serious talks with the Magic about a deal that will send Vince Carter to Orlando for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee, two league sources told ESPN.com.

The talks have reached a point that a deal could be done by the end of the day Thursday, according to sources.

The
trade would give the Magic even more star power on their quest to win
an NBA championship. The addition of Carter to a lineup that already
consists of All-Star players Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson would make them the favorites to win the Eastern Conference title next year.

I like how ESPN just declares things like that.  I beg to differ.  Vince Carter has never made anything better.  He's poison.  Yes, talent-wise he's be an improvement over Rafer Alston and Tony Battie.  But I think Courtney Lee has shown that he has balls… which is something VC can't say.

Vince will dominate the ball and hinder that offense.  He'll lessen Nelson's and Lewis' impact on the team.  This isn't like the Celtics putting egos aside, watching their stats drop a little, and jelling for the good of the team.  Vince Carter isn't that guy.  Vince has ruined any promising situation he's been a part of.

The Magic need to do something to upgrade their team, but Vince Carter isn't it.  Now… as a Celtics fan… I'd love to watch one of our main competitors implode.  But I'm sure as hell not going to sit here and pretend like that's a good deal for Orlando.

    Man you’re crazy.
This is the perfect move for Orlando.
I understand VC has his flaws but this still makes them better.

The East is going to be extraordinarily competitive next year.
    Atlanta is better.
    Orlando is better.
    Cleveland is better.
Boston will be better (just because of health)
Chicago will be better (just another year of experience).

Afterall…. what was Orlando’s problems in the Finals?
Didn’t have a one-on-one offensive player that they could go to down the stretch and particularly in overtime. They have Vince Carter this year… they probably win those two overtime games.

This absolutely does NOT make Orlando better. It makes them much worse. This is potentially worse than the Shaq to Cleveland trade.
Seriously, this is a dumb move. If they held onto Courtney Lee, it would have been better. Orlando gave up way too much.

Getting rid of Lee is odd. DH is early 20’s, Lee is early 20’s, Nelson is mid-20’s and they were just in the finals. Why mess up that potential for growth?
More importantly, who can the C’s send to NJ to get Battie back?

    And it’s now offical.

Scal, TA, and a bag of peanuts?

They’re losing Turkoglu and Courtney Lee and picking up Vince Carter.
That’s a major step backwards in my book.

That’s just what I was about to post. They ain’t getting back to the finals without Turkoglu.

Wow. I am a Lakers fan and have been telling people that this hurts the Magic and everyone thinks I’m crazy. Glad to know it isn’t just me that realizes this hurts them

I think this hurts the Magic (and I’m a Magic fan) if ONE of the following DON’T happen:
    1) The Magic resign Hedo (I think they still try and sign him)
    2) The Magic sign Rasheed Wallace to a mid level
    3) The Magic work a way to sign Lamar Odom
    4) The Magic find a way to get a suitable starting PF
I don’t think Vince Carter is the cancer most believe, especially this late in his career. He’s coming to an area he grew up in and loves, and he wants that ring.

Obviously if they lose Turkoglu… but I think they’ll sign him too.
Orlando’s owner wants to win bad… he’ll fork over a little extra money.

In other sad news…. Michael Jackson was just pronounced dead.

  • Lakerhater

Too bad. I heard he and Elton John were working on a duet – “Don’t let your son go down on me”

It’s better than losing Turkgolu for nothing.
