Ainge: We’re still a contender

Danny Ainge met with the media today to talk a little about the upcoming draft and all the crazy trade rumors.  Joe Giza, a sports producer at WBZ TV in Boston, shared some of that in the form of this video via his Twitter page today

The Celtics shared some quotes from today via their own Twitter page:

On why they're more likely to keep the current squad intact:

"This opportunity is unique. We have an opportunity to win with this
team we have. We don't want to jeopardize that for the future."

On the Rondo speculation:

heard speculation we're dissatisfied with him; we're gonna trade him
because he was late for a playoff game? That's not true."

"I'm not sure why his is popping up, but we love Rajon. It doesn't seem
like you have to have any source any more (to report rumors)."

On KG's Progress:

"KG's coming along very well. He should be 100% by the time we start training camp. He just went home to L.A."

All in all… basic stuff.  Danny's dismissing the trade rumors like everyone else… but I think we all know that you don't have this many rumors floating around without them starting from somewhere.  I don't expect a major splash on draft day… but would anyone be REALLY shocked if Danny pulled a trick out of his sleeve?

Off season is all mind games…I will stop panicking until something makes some sense.

Trade rumors are fun during the off season but the Ray and Rondo rumors are not believable. To the Pistons? Why would Dumars trade half his team to a contending rival? At least now we know he is not going to trade up for a development draft pick so we can get that out of the way. I do believe he is shopping Ray Ray but not Rondo. At the end of the day our starting 5 will be intact and Ainge will have to do some tweaking with our weak bench. Rasheeddd Wallace and Grant Hill should fill those holes.

Actually, That trade does make sense for Dumars if he’s looking to let Ray’s money expire to pick up some big names in the 2010 Free Agent Sweepstakes.
It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for the Celtics though, because as good as Hamilton and Prince are, we’re giving up our Starting point guard and not getting one in return. Stuckey is like Rondo, Circa 2006.
I agree with santos. Leave the starting 5 intact and trade for/sign Wallace and Hill to the bench, giving up Big Baby if it means that.

Via ESPN’s Chad Ford’s live chat:
The trade is Richard Jefferson to the Spurs for Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas … more coming in just a second. Deal is agreed to in principle with a trade call coming later today.

  • We still have the best starting five in all of basketball, by a longshot, no one is even close
why would make a deal that doesnt make us better for the future, and doesnt improve our starting five?
if we our going to trade ray and rondo for something i would trade them for Joe Johnson(work out and extension), maurice evans, and acie law and the 19th pick and then sign raymond felton to the full mle, draft best player and sign a big man
    raymond felton
    joe johnson
    paul pierce
    bench of
    big baby
    terrence williams/austin daye/earl clarke/ budinger/ mayner/ collison
but i would still rather just keep our starting 5 in tact and add to the bench through moving up in the draft and free agency

  • shit, what a steal, pops is a genious

  • this makes me angry, damn i hate the spurs

  • are you thinking what im thinking? scal, tony, JR, gabe, and bill for redd? lol

  • thetitleisours

Problem is most of our cards have been played already
Nick “Collision” could be an decent backup. Also like the Dahntay Jones idea

  • it’s hard to read any of the comments more than 1/2 way down the page-my eyes always end up drifting over to {Bar’s ass..
