Thibodeau is staying in Boston

RedsArmyAdmin June 9, 2009 Uncategorized 8 Comments

Thibs and doc Marc J. Spears has the good word.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that assistant Tom Thibodeau withdrew
himself from consideration from the head coaching job with the
Sacramento Kings.

Thibodeau, who also interviewed for the Philadelphia 76ers job, is expected to rejoin the Celtics bench next season.

Allow me to speak for everyone when I say… "hell yeah."  I mean… I feel bad for the guy because he really wants to be a head coach.  But he will be.  I'm just happy that he's gonna be back for one more year to direct our stifling defense.

Hell yes. I would love to see Thibs do well as a head coach, but I’d be happy to see him back here-hell, ecstatic to see him back here…

Doc Rivers is always talking about spending time with the family, how basketball comes second etc. Thibs can take over when he moves down to FLA for good.

    huh?
well they work good together…clearly there are questions to whether or not he can be a head coach…and why do you act like its wrong that doc loves his family? most people would say family is first…yet when its bsketball season im pretty sure the celtics are his top priority

I’m not judging, just saying it’s a pretty real possibility Doc quits because of his family. He’s said so several times.

I’ve heard Doc say that too. The thought crossed my mind but I don’t see Doc retiring until the Big Three are broken up. That’s his team.
Thank God Thibodeau is staying. Fact is, he would be the perfect replacement for Doc when he does retire. It’s a Celtics tradition to promote from within.
    Bill Russell
    Tom Heinsohn
    Dave Cowens
    KC Jones
    Jimmy Rogers
    Chris Ford
    ML Carr
    Etc…
The players respect Thibs, he would be the logical fill in for Doc.

Yeah, well im pretty sure he signed a 3 yr extension after last season, so he will be around for a while…does thibodeau wanna wait that long for a head coaching job? does he even make a good head coach, apparently no other franchise thinks so…and I agree with nick below…this big 3 era, and this current team is docs team, they love him, they listen to him and he just has them

Bummer for him but great for us that he’s staying.
Another year of great coaching and with the Powe/BBD contracts in flux we don’t know who will be here come camp time. It’s good to know he’s around to keep the D in check.
Doc’s Retirement? Bit premature ya think?
