The Streak is Over

Yes, this guy beat us.

I want to blame the bench for this loss (13 total points, Powe and House combined for 3 pts), but that's hard to do when the game is tied at 81 with 3 minutes left. Pau Gasol (yes – PAU GASOL) dominated crunch time with 7 points and 1 huge blocked shot.

The Lakers were the more physical team because the referees allowed them to be. Anytime the Celtics amped up their play, their were whistled for some BS foul.

Bynum is a pretty good shot blocker, but offensively he's not even close to a $57 million player.

makes me wana spend the extra couple bucks to go to the FEB 5th game. and my kobe swallows shirt dosent hurt either

  • http://rangerbobfriends.blogspot.com Count Istvan

You can tell from the crowds reaction that they know this was their NBA title. Laker fans know it won’t get better than this. They know they can’t win an NBA finals series against the Celtics so they figure they might as well pretend they did so tonight.

  • Josh

Celtics got outplayed, I am not blaming the refs for this loss, I’ll make that clear, however that was a horribly officiated game. How do you get called for an offensive foul going into a guy in the air that is also in the circle?

  • lakerss!!!

what happened?!?!!? I thought you guys said this game was over-hyped. that the C’s would win by what? 16? PFFTTTT…. OVER-RATED!!! OVER-RATED!!!

  • lamar odom

what happened to your 12 days of xmas song? HA!

  • http://redsarmy.com BigMck

Yes…the Lakers are over-rated. Good call lakerss!!!

  • kobe bryant

HAHAHA!!! Is big “cry” baby gonna cry again?!

lol i loved the streamers…. arent those reserved for nba championships? not a regular season game….. or maybe as count istvan said…this is as good as its gunna get for them

  • http://www.redsarmy.com redsarmy

Hey… the Lakers came out strong and won. Great battle. Lakers won. End of story.
The Celtics took some really horrible shots. Ray and Eddie each took 3′s from about 4 feet behind the line. Ray made some bad choices tonight.

  • jeff

ok that kinda ruined my christmas.
but i’ll try to look at the positives:
-if the bench had a halfway decent game the Cs probably would have won.
-andrew bynum wouldnt have changed shit in last years finals
-vujacic and gasol are still dirty greasy douche bags
-lakers acting like they won something…..please see you in february (and more importantly june…….if u can make it out of the west)

  • Sun Yue

I like how you idiots are trying to make light of your lost. 19-game winning streak OVERRR!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Matt

1.Teixeira does not sign with the Red Sox
2.Celtics lose to the Lakers on Christmas
    3.Patriots don’t make the playoffs
Two of these events have happened, and if the third comes in they will all combine to make it my worst Christmas vacation ever.
By the way, to that idiot lakers fan, you guys won a game AT HOME. And yet you treat it like you just won the championship.
I wouldn’t be talking about overrated when that so called legend in the making, Andrew Bynum, made barely any difference in this game besides making a few swats.

  • Alex

Tony allen killed the second unit…turnovers, bad shots, bad drives, bad defense….he does more bad then good and just shows how much poze meant as the 6th man over TA…we need a new scorer off the bench and another long center like mutombo or PJ (i’d rather have PJ)

  • Coby Karl

Hey, what did you guys get for christmas??? Oh yeah…. a lost to the 09′ champs!!!! bye bye winning streak!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NYCelt84

I’ll give credit where it’s due. Kobe and Gasol were phenomenal, but I can’t recall a game that had worse officiating and we were due a loss. We weren’t going to go 80-2.

  • double P reppin the B

haha the funny thing is that we won 19 games before this game, and will go right back to our winning ways after this game. Lakers won, although it was questionable, but we’ll play again, and maybe on Feb. 5th we will be riding another 19 game win streak. Enjoy it lakers trolls, you know this was an abberation game from all the pain we put you through last year when it really mattered….

  • http://TheLakersNation.com LD2k

    Great game.
Celtics are a phenomenal team and honestly, Allen was pissed all game and let it get to his head. How you don’t look to Allen for offense is beyond me.
And just when I thought Gasol’s “soft” stamp was going to be permanent, he comes out and seals it with a tough and1 play to win it.
Great game, there is no doubt in my mind this is a Finals preview. Two best teams in basketball (Cle = 18 home wins, sorry, not at Boston’s level). This level of basketball is great…

  • Sasha

Don’t act like this game didn’t mean shit to you guys. What happened to all the beat LA chants? Don’t act like you didn’t want to see your winning streak go on. I know it hurts…. hurts real bad doesn’t it??????? WHOOOOOO I LOVE IT!!! SEE YOU ASSHOLES IN FEB!!!!

I guess vegas was right huh Redsarmy? HAHA!!!

  • Vegas

    GO LAKERS!!!!!!1

  • Laker Hater

The turnover numbers and personal foul numbers are drastically different between the 2 teams. This was mostly to do with the officiating. While the Celts didn’t play stellar they are clearly the better team.

  • domz

BOOO YAHHHH to you celts fans. There goes your 19 winning streak! It’s nice to see you pretend that this game is nothing to you. Yeah Go on and say anything you want to ease the pain!!! and have a merry christmas!!!!

I thought the officiating level in the NBA was higher than the BS we always see here in Italy… and instead it’s loooooow. That offensive foul on the end of the 3rd quarted called on Rondo was surreal… not to mention all other questionable “home” calls…
We need to sign someone for the bench, now. That’s what I feared at the begin of the season, Posey averaged little figures, but when it came to keep the other team’s stars from scoring, well that was another thing. We have been shattered by Kobe, we’ll find hard to guard Lebron, and I fear he will rip us off if he’s on a good night, if we don’t add more depth.

  • Steve

The Celtics definitely lost this game. But I mean, the officiating was absolutely abysmal. I’m not gonna’ blame anything on that, but I really just wanted to point it out.

  • Fuck celtics.

    Streak is over. Bastards
    vida.

  • MerryChristmaaas

    HAHHAHAHAA
How did that “16 pt” win feel? HOW DOES UR STREAK FEEL?
    MERRY CHRISTMAS BTCHEZZZ

  • Lakers 24 7

Sup dudes, I just want to say that it was a good game by the Celtics, but I believe the Lakers matched their physicality. I also don’t know why you guys are complaining about the Celtics 8 FT’s…it’s not like the Lakers had a whole lot, only 15. Remember that game 2 in Boston? 38 Boston FT’s to the Lakers only 10? Forget it now, it’s in the past. It was an exciting game and both teams played well, but somebody had to lose. Also, it was a big game for the Lakers AND for the fans, sure we don’t win a title with this win, but it is a test to see if we can compete with the best in the league, and also some redemption for that game 6 blow out.

  • Monty

Second unit came up short and refs must’ve bet Lakers. I wish Tommy was there because he would’ve been all over the horrible officials.

One thing that brings this site down is the level of participation and interaction that goes on in the comments. Good grief.
You have troll-like Lakers fans who curse, cannot spell basic words, and make really ridiculous points (this is the regular season). And on the other side of the fence, you have Celtics fans who insult the people of L.A. (internet tough guy), make excuses (blame the officials, instead of the turnovers or admitting the Lakers played good defense), or generally act like ignorant degenerates.
It’s a game folks. At the end of the day, that’s what it is.
“Hey… the Lakers came out strong and won. Great battle. Lakers won. End of story. ” – this is the best comment made. John doesn’t make excuses, because the man has played the game. Trash talk at the beginning, but respect in the end.
Being from L.A., I’m glad to see the town invigorated by the Lakers, as I was proud to see that massive Celtics logo off of 95 headed to Logan a couple of months back.
Today’s game was a very good one and it only serves to improve the sport. Good stuff. Until February…

It was very clear that the refs were calling it the Lakers’ way every chance they could. If a Laker twitched they called a foul, when there was CLEARLY none given. I counted at least 6 times that the ball was wrongly taken away from the Cs due to the refs and the refs alone.
This has an effect on how a team plays too… it’s not just those specific plays that are affected, but the whole game.
My theory: the league decided a “rivalry” was good for business, and that the Celtics had to go down for there be one. I think this was decided in advance, and that this happens regularly in the NBA. That is the one great flaw in this game… there is NO control over the refs, not even a way to complain… if you open your mouth, you get slapped with a fine. I just hope that someday, some ref will step forward and blow the whistle on the league, once and for all…. or sue them in court.
Why else would the league so steadfastly refuse to allow instant replay on challenges?
In the long run, the Cs will win… but it’s irritating as hell to watch their hard work be turned to crap by dishonest officials working for a corrupt league.
Don’t believe it? Ask yourself how it is possible to commit an offensive foul when the contact occurs DIRECTLY UNDER THE BASKET IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RESTRICTED AREA? Just one of many ridiculous calls in this game.
‘Nuf said. What’s clear is clear.

  • ssshady35

Gasoal is a piece of shit, Garnett should of punched him in his fucken face. Lamar hits two lucky 3’2, oh well lets start another 19 in a row. I HATE the fucken FAKERS….I wounder how much the lakers paid the fans to cheer….lol

  • William

This was the worst the C’s have played this year, and they still hung with the 3rd/4th best team in the league until late. Any improvement next time due to familiarity, preparation, playing at home, and/or less biased officiating and the C’s will win. Adding a PJ Brown (or dare I say, Mutumbo) should help too.
Frustrating game, but fodder for the coaching staff, and motivation for the players.

  • lakersfan2408

Why can’t everyone just admit that this was a great game? So the Lakers won and the Celts lost, whoopy freaking doo. It’s a game, about midway through the season, that could have gone either way and means absolutely nothing. Everyone was waiting to see what Bynum would do and he had a couple blocks. Just goes to show that this argument won’t be proved until the teams meet in the NBA finals. Get over your egotistical ways and realize these teams will cruise to the finals and battle it out for the ultimate bragging rights. All the season means for these two teams is that they’ll get home court advantage during the playoffs. Just wish June would hurry up and arrive.

  • thetitleisours

Laker fans are proving that thy smell worse than comes out of my butt. But what comes out of my butt has more real substance those those fake America’s Team fans. Doesn’t anything make you more sick than those fake rich Hollywood types at the games. You call US bandwagon? What do you call all those FAKE rich Hollywood types that are there just to be seen. We played lousy and STILL kept it close. What the frig do you think it will be like in OUR house shallow pukes!
LA is a fake city, fake team, fake boobs, and shallow fans. You will feel our wrath soon FAKERS!!!!!!

  • lakersfan24

lets not get into the blame referees mode…. the lakers won the celtics loss….. on to the next game…. until we meet again in boston………

  • nobody walks in LA

the entire city of Boston was chanting “BEAT LA”…so for you jackasses who said this game wasn’t a big deal needs to eat it.
and what IF the lakers would have lost, you hypocrites would have said “they failed the test”…”we are still the best”…get over it…
yes it was a just a regular season game, but they don’t put meaningless games on Christmas day for nothing, ya red headed boson freaks!

  • Ajay

I guess this site didn”t know how much shit it was talking till now after Lakers won . Just wait till February 5th it’s gonna get even more worse for the Celtics

  • inferno

Great game guys…would have chimed in sooner, but its Christmas…
How ANYONE could have watched that game and seriously complained about officiating as the main factor for losing is absurd…Refs were a non-factor-when the whistles are NOT blowing is when we see good basketball-and that’s exactly what we saw…
Redsarmy, I commend you on your fair commentary…clearly these are the two best teams in the sport and the Lakers were the better team today…
I must say the Bynum in the line-up absolutely made a HUGE difference today…35 minutes, 9 points, 7 rebs and 2 blocks…but most importantly…ask Pau how nice it is to have his big ass on the floor to take some of the pounding…this years finals will be the same two teams…we’ll see about the results…
    Can’t wait for June.

  • Bynum4MVP

I was gonna gloat but after RedsArmy reasonable defense of the Refs…it goes both ways,
The Celtics beat the Lakers fair and square, the Lakers won this one fair and square.
I’ll just say good game Celtic Fans.
    See you in February.

Reds army haha red is turning in his grave right now… lets face the facts…boston literally got handed a team … with garnett and allen signings yes you cockksuckers won one title but sold your souls… pierce is nowhere near kobe’s level and Pau will outdo garnett anytime of the day… but be happy we only face eachother twice in the regular season… worry about cavs you pathetic lil sons of a bittches … all you reds army wanna be could suck a fatty

  • ks

I don’t know why everyone is bitchin about this game. Celtics fans should admit they lost and their were questionable calls both ways. But it was at L.A. and the home team is always going to have the advantage. I thought both teams could’ve played better but as a lakers fan i can honestly say that if this was in boston they probly wouldve won. They would win because of the refs would give them b.s. calls. So as far as i am concerned these teams are as good as equal but a lot will change come june.

  • AINGELIVES

Aingelives Kobe’s no Jordan. Lakers will not make it back to Finals sorry so it really does not matter.

  • Lakers2416

Hahaha. You celtics fans are all talk. You talk trash before the game, but what happened. You guys find excuses for your celtics to lose this game. “boo hooo officiating was awful” Puhhhhhhhhhleeeeeeeease I’ve seeen WAAAAY motherfucking worse officiating than that bullshit. The only reason why you guys HAD a 19 game win streak was because ya’ll played weak eastern conference teams. It’s funny how before this game, Celtics hadn’t lost in like 3 weeks? But cleveland cavaliers are not too behind from yall. HAHAHAHA
&c’mon. Jordan farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Trevor Ariza, Lamar Odom > Leon Powe, Eddie house, Glen crybaby Davis, Tony Allen.
AND to top it all off even tho it doesnt matter yall got the two ugliest players. Sam cassell and Brian Scalabrine LMFAO

The Lakers got a hard earned win. They deserved to win that game. I find it funny that the Celtics fans complain about the officiating in that game when the Lakers only got 7 more ft’s than the Celtics (but won by 9), and they don’t think there is anything wrong with 38-10 ft advantage in the finals (they only won by around 6). And you can’t complain about the reffing ruining your streak because you wouldn’t have the streak if the refs didn’t win the Celtics the games against the Hawks (both times), Hornets, Jazz, Pacers (in Indiana), and Bucks.

  • Joe

I love all of these Celtic excuses. Makes XMAS even better.

  • Chris Manning

Good game. I thought Boston played hard toda and earned their 16-point vict.. oh wait. Just kidding. Lakers 09 Champs!

  • NBAfan

Laker fans and the Celtic fans both have been waiting for this game since the season started, so please stop acting as if you don’t care. You can say “Lakers think they just won a championship” and things like that, but what you don’t seem to understand is the Lakers just want revenge in the two regular season games because Boston WILL NOT be in NBA Finals. Cleveland took Boston to seven games in last season’s playoffs and are much improved this time around!!!
LAKERS vs CAVS 2009 NBA Finals
But don’t worry Celtic fans, you can still watch the Lakers beat the team you could’nt beat in the eastern conference! Hope that helps the pain….lol
