A Draft Mockery

RedsArmyAdmin June 26, 2008 Uncategorized 6 Comments

Because of the Celtics historic run through the playoffs, culminating with the utter dismantling of the vastly overrated Los Angeles Lakers, I've paid exactly zero attention to the draft. Can you blame me? So rather than pretend I actually know something about this incoming class of NBA players, I'm going to steal the work of other people. Here's a list of several mock drafts and the player slated for the Celtics:

ESPN / RealGM /NBC – Courtney Lee – SG/Western Kentucky

SI – Roy Hibbert – C/Georgetown

NBA Draft.net /Yahoo – JJ Hickson – PF/NC. State

HoopsWorld / CBS – Devon Hardin – PF/Cal

Sporting News – Trent Plaisted – PF/C – BYU

Inside Hoops - Richard Hendrix – PF – Alabama

Of all those players, Hibbert is the only one I've seen play. I know his stock has dropped dramatically since last year's draft, but I would love the C's to select this Hoya.

Earlier today, Danny Ainge had this to say about our beloved Mongoose, James Posey:

“We want James back,” Ainge said. “That’s my position. We need to come to an agreement, what is a fair agreement with him, that process will start on July 1 when he can go test the free agent market and see what’s available, just weigh his options and choices because I’m sure he’ll have choices.”

Sounds good but money will certainly talk is this case. I've been saying all along, offer up 3 years at $5.8 million per year, and we should have a deal. Throw in a fourth year (team option) for good measure. Danny also said P.J. Brown is leaning towards retirement.

And there's some breaking news, the Pacers have shipped Jermaine O'Neal to Toronto for T.J. Ford.

I agree about Hibbert he’s a no go for me. I also like Douglas Roberts but I doubt he would be on the board.

Im hoping we dont get Hibbert, which i ve seen projected a couple of mock drafts…he is sloooow…like he has concrete in his shoes….If DJ White out of Indiana is available , we should get him..he is high energy guy and would be great defender to add to the already awesome D…..also Richard Hendrix out of BAMA !! would also be a nice choice…great Defender and rebounder…..or maybe Joey Dorcey from Memphis…great banger inside and plays hard…already has NBA body too….or go versitale combo guy like Chis Douglas Roberts form Memphis if hes available, he would be a steal…as far as secound round with the last pick(60) , ive seen Demarcus Nelson from Duke mentioned…really surprised he would slip this far…he has all kinda skills…and his defense is sick….I think him and ROndo would make the toughest backcourt to handle the ball against with the ball pressure they could provide on opposing guards…..i just want our D get even better…love it when we lock teams down.

we need a SG to replace Tony Allen…no?

I don’t understand the drafting of a SG. I understand that we don’t want to reach for a big man that will lock us into guaranteed money… but it certainly seems that a big man will be available.

Sounds like Ainge will match any offer, the Mongoose should be staying put.
Hibbert would be nice, but I think he’s going top 20. Any 7+ footer with some post skills and a defensive mindset will fit in nicely. No 7ft soft international shooters please.
Toronto should be looking at a first-round homecourt advantage next year. They will definitely match up better with the Magic, Cavs and Wizards. Perk and KG better come ready to play, Rondo trumps Calderon, and Ray and Paul still kick their ass.
