What About Grant Hill?

RedsArmyAdmin June 23, 2008 Uncategorized 5 Comments

grant hillGrant Hill is hungry for a ring.  Starving for one.  Desperate for one.

He has also made plenty of money.  He's a respected guy who can still play 20+ minutes of good basketball in every game.  He just finished a season with the Phoenix Suns in which he played 70 games, at 31.8 minutes per, and averaged 13.1 ppg.  He'll be 36, but he was productive and pretty healthy last year.  And he'll be asked to play reserve minutes… not starter minutes.

Grant Hill has a player option for this year at $1.9 million… but he's made plenty of money already.  Don't you think he'd be willing to take the veteran minimum to play here?  Phoenix is in a tough spot…. and they still have to fight their way through the West.

Personally… I'd love to have him on this team.  He can still play quality minutes and… most importantly… he's one of the smartest players on the floor.  He can anchor a second unit and provide a spark (and some rebounding;  He averaged 5 a game last year).  He can help younger guys progress and be yet another positive, veteran influence on guys like Rajon Rondo, Gabe Pruitt and Kendrick Perkins.

The only downside for him:  He'd have to change his number.

didn’t he also play for orlando when doc was coaching there?

I expect he’s going to stay with Phoenix, difficult conference or not. The Suns seem to have the best medical staff (keeping Nash on his feet, revitalizing Shaq and Grant Hill last year), a medical staff he’ll likely make use of again next year.
He’d be a great vet to have on the bench, but it was Phoenix who rolled the dice on him last year, and I think he’s going to reward them by staying put.

He did play for Doc in Orlando. I wonder if that’s good or bad. Although I think he was hurt the whole time.
I have a hard time believing any other city would be able to provide better medical care than Boston. We’ve got some of the best doctors in the world here.
If he opts out and comes here for the veteran minimum, then he might become the best bargain in the NBA.

Didn’t Dickerson do an interview with Grant Hill this year on Comcast Sports Net and he had some pretty high praise for Doc? Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’m remembering that right.
